About the Author
JOHN GALSWORTHY [1867-1933] was a British writer of novels, plays, poems, and short stories. After graduating from Oxford University he worked for his family's shipping business. From 1897 to 1904 he published under the pen name John Sinjohn. His first play The Silver Box (1906) was a success. He published the novel The Man of Property (1906) which was the first book of the Forsyte trilogy. he continued to write plays such as Strife (1909) and The Skin Game (1920). In World War I, he was an orderly in a French hospital. In 1921, he was elected as the first president of International PEN literary club. In 1929, he was inducted in the Order of Merit. In 1932, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
