The Real Lincoln Exposed by the Press:Anti-Lincoln Editorials and Cartoons from Northern and English Papers

The vast collection of editorials and satirical political cartoons lampooning Lincoln were gathered from primary resources, that is, actual Northern and English newspapers and magazines printed during his lifetime. These accounts show quite a different Lincoln than those written after his unfortunate martrydom, which made him an American Icon. The first hand history is presented for the most part without comment, although scrutiny and analysis by contemporary historians are presented as well. Carefully documented, this scholarly work in print (Abraham Lincoln in the Northern and English Press) earned for the author recognition as an academic historian.
