Lady Hillsley had found a balance between her noble and merchant relations until slave traders conspired to murder her and kidnap her husband. It was the hide of a scruffy little animal that floated up and sent her life down a river of stormy adventure.
On the surface, this is an entertaining tale of conspiracies, brutal murders, adventure, bloody sea battles, knightly honor, and tender love. The deeper currents, however, will lead you to question the history of our culture and the social inertias swirling through the power struggles of our time. The characters are endearing and timeless as they search for solutions to problems as old and as new as the river itself.
