The Vampyre

In THE VAMPYRE, a mysterious gentleman, Lord Ruthven, has entered London society where he befriends a young Englishman, Aubrey. The two travel to Italy and Greece, where Aubrey realizes that misfortune seems to follow Ruthven wherever he goes. After being set upon by robbers, Ruthven lies mortally wounded and swears Aubrey to secrecy for a year and a day. After returning to London, Ruthven reappears betrothed to Aubrey's sister.
