Anatole France [1844-1924] graduted from Collège Stanislas and then worked at his father's bookstore. In 1876, he worked as a librarian for the French Senate. He received a prize from the French Academy for his novel The Crime of Sylvestre Bonnard (1881). In 1901, France wrote about the Dreyfus affair in Monsieur Bergeret. In 1908, he published Penguin Island, a satire about penguins changed into humans after being baptized in error by the nearsighted Abbot Mael. In 1896, he was elected to the Académie Française. In 1921, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
