The authors in this issue use various scientific focuses to analyze Latin America literature and culture. The approach is two-pronged, showing both how science can illuminate the truths inherent in literature, and also how literature uses scientific facts and methods to achieve certain artistic, social, cultural, and political goals. The authors also demonstrate how science can falsify certain literary propositions, and how literature can further scientific ends such as ecocriticism, environmentalism, and sustainable policy decision-making. The science used is modern, while the literary texts reflect different historical periods from the Paleolithic to the present. Throughout, the focus is on discovering socio-cultural truths through the synergistic application of both scientific and humanistic theory.
