Fanshawe by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a romance novel based on Hawthorne's undergraduate experience at Bowdoin College. The work, originally published anonymously in 1828, was a commercial flop leading Hawthorne to burn the unsold copies and his wife to insist he never wrote it. Thankfully, a few copies of this novel remained, and now you can enjoy Fanshawe today!
