Media Workers for Social Change

During the first ten years of the 21st Century, media control in the United States was concentrated in the hands of a few corporate giants. There was no left or liberal movement that could counter this and disseminate messages to a mass audience except in a few instances. This led progressive media workers to seek independent means to put across their messages. They set about finding new and different ways of organization, sometimes as non-profits, sometimes as collectives, and sometimes acting independently. These are the stories of thirteen San Francisco Bay Area media workers for social change, chosen by the author for varied backgrounds, areas of work, and places on the progressive political spectrum.
