Ken Forrester wrote and submitted manuscripts for two years before he made his first sale: he was paid $15 for a short story involving bubble gum (yes, he still has a copy of the magazine and no, you can't se it). He has been hooked on writing for money ever since.
Ken's sold writings have included essays, newspaper and magazine articles, short stories, personal experiences, rodeos, teen-age drinking, wine, an instruction manual for attorneys (he is one), reminiscences, nursing homes, military service and other things not subject to easy categorizations. Pay has ranged from one-fourth of a cent a word to (next-year my writing will allow me to retire to a life of indolent ease," followed by months of no-sales. He teaches courses on writing, mostly for senior citizens.
Ken has gained almost unbelievable practical knowledge of writing and selling, most of it not found elsewhere, which he shares here in practical down-to-earth language at minimum cost. He sincerely believes that if you can read without moving your lips you can write for money.
Topics include: Types of writing (commercial, creative, professional), 25 Gee-TAWS (Great truths about writing, including time and place to write, computers and other equipment needed, supplies, your writing library, fiction and nonfiction elements and sources, polishing your writing, manuscript format, finding market information, submission of manuscripts, reasons your manuscript may be rejected, what to do when is it accepted), agents, and a few no-no's, among other things.
