Dumb Animals and How to Treat Them

This version of Dumb Animals is a rare 1909 text boo for use in public schools. The book was used to teach animal welfare and states that "animals are like the rest of us in the great needs of their lives to make them happy--food, drink, shelter, rest, play, to be free from pain and fear ... life, liberty, company, and love." The book was used in some schools because some states had made it a law to teach Humane Education in public schools. There are a multitude of topics in the book including "How Much Animals are Like Us", "How to Understand Animals and How to Make Them Understand You", and general animal rights to feeding, sheltering, exercising, and cleaning animals.
