A website focused on a specific subject which offers some kind of
service only to people who become a member. This information is not
available for general visitors that are do not join as a member. generally
the information contained in the membership website is password-
protected meaning that a person needs to first sign up as a member
and then log into a password protected area to view the content.

Basically there are two types of membership sites:

- A free membership site - where members simply need to register with
their name and e-mail address to join.

- A paid membership site - where members are usually charged a one-
time sign up fee or billed monthly, quarterly or yearly.

There is no limit to what can be offered inside of a membership site. As
long as it has value and a reoccurring demand, so that you're members
will be inclined to continue their membership active.

For instance, some membership sites may provide mentoring or
coaching, while others may contain training, articles and information
based on a particular topic, as well as act as meeting place for people
with a common interest . Then there are some that provide specialized
products or services that their members can use and sometimes sell.
These are known as reseller or private label (PLR) websites.

It's no secret, that doing business on the Internet is easier than ever. In
fact, anyone can start a membership based website even if you're on a
very limited budget. It used to be setting up a member based website
took a lot of expensive coding and scripts to make it function properly,
now days all you need is a good topic, web hosting and a few free or
inexpensive tools to get started, but the question is should you?

Before you decide to start a membership site it's important to consider
whether or not running a membership site is for you, or else your new
venture may be destined to fail.

It is also important to keep in mind that building a business, any
business takes time, so if you are expecting to be able to throw up a

boss, setting your own hours, no dress code, etc. If you are expecting
instant riches I'm afraid you'll be sorely disappointed.

Even though there are literally hundreds of success stories online
touting the ability to make millions of dollars overnight by running a
membership website, the truth of the matter is it doesn't usually work
that fast. However, with some solid research, hard work and effort you
will be able to build your site and make a very nice income, but it will
take time!
