In some cultures the word 'teejus' is used in place of the word 'tedious'.
Two boys are born to an alcoholic father and tubercular mother in the waning years of the great depression of the twentieth century. The mother perishes before the brothers are out of infancy and the boys are given a home with a childless Aunt and Uncle.
The reader follows the transition of the elder boy, Jackie Teejus from a youth dangling his feet from the bed as his mother is carried into quarantine, into the tutelage of a stern but caring Aunt, through sibling rivalry, and the pains of adolescent.
Naïve and unprepared, he seeks escape in the military where he comes face to face with the imperfections of a nation where dreams are purged by reality.
In a story that begins at a toddler’s bedside and concludes in adulthood, the reader is confronted with the changing idealism of and young man and the valor of an almost forgotten warrior.
