"The Human Side of Nursing" is a collection of 15 short stories about the author's experiences as a community health nurse and the interactions she's had with her patients and their family caregivers in their homes or communities. The book describes the courage and inner strength this nurses' patients and their caregivers displayed in dealing with illness and disability.

All types of families are represented-families with young children, middle aged couples, aging persons, and single men and women living alone. Some families are challenged by lives of poverty while others share a more affluent life style. Different ethnicities and religions are represented.

The common thread of the book is the interplay between the nurse and the family in dealing with disease. The lives of the patient, the family, and the nurse are all touched and changed by the interactions.
