Nepal : New Frontiers of Restructuring of State

The agenda of the restructuring of the state came to sharp focus during the People’s War, 1996-2006. Other political parties, individual intellectuals and analysts embraced this agenda realizing that the origins of violence and setbacks suffered by democracy at the hands of the absolute monarchy are rooted in socioeconomic, political and regional disparities in the country. And monarchy that was perennially presented as the symbol of unity, integrity and national sovereignty was no longer so. All such myths were exploded one after another when the ambitious monarchs not only worked as obstacle to democratic development but also found political parties irrelevant to his rise to power.
