EXCLUSIVE TO NOOK! Fred E. Sutton was a pioneer of the Old West, and participated in the “land-run” in 1889 which led to the settlement of Indian Territory. In his long lifetime he chanced to become acquainted with some of the most colorful characters which have made their way into western folklore and legend. Mr. Sutton was a gifted story-teller, and he narrated his memoirs in the first person to A. B. Macdonald, who first published them as a series in the Saturday Evening Post. They were so popular that they were published in book form circa 1927. Historian Lucy Booker Roper has taken an old copy, re-set the type, and formatted it for the electronic book. Clear digitalized pictures have replaced the print ones, which were of poor quality. In addition, she did a great deal of research on her own to annotate this book, adding supplementary material such as newspaper articles of the day, and clarifications to aid in the understanding of this fascinating panorama. The book contains stirring accounts of the legendary bandits, gunslingers, lawmen, pioneers, and adventurers who moved about the Old West, and especially in and around the Oklahoma area by one who was an eyewitness. Included are exciting tales of Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett, Dodge City and its cowboys, the Wild Bunch, Bill Hickok, Bat Masterson, the James Boys, the Dalton Gang, the Doolin Gang, Belle Starr, the “Rose of the Cimarron,” Judge Isaac Parker, “the “hanging judge,” Bill Tilghman and the “Three Guardsmen” and many more.
