Kirkus Reviews "Best of 2012" list!
A whisky-and-splash comic chaser for the godawful 2000s. Anglican Seinfeld. Wodehouse with more sex, Waugh with more heart. Who's for a bit of what we're having, a perfect fizzer of a Brit-American cocktail, with a happy ending for all time?
Each Book of Chesterfield is a novella-length story with its own lunatic plot-line. Together the three Books form a unified novel. "Sparkling... Literate, funny, and romantic... " Kirkus Reviews (starred review*

Book Two: FAREWELL THE BIG WARS -- The mythical Ffoulkes Fortune comes fully into play with the death of Chesterfield's Granny Victoria. Then on the day of the funeral, Granny Vic's daughter, Chesterfield's British mum Daphne simply walks off the planet, to return as a mischievous, bourbon-tippling ghost. By this time, Chesterfield's love for Carrie Hahn is as unbreakable as hers for him. Yet as a gentleman he remains at the disposal of Deborah, who wants it both ways: freedom AND fortune. The code allows for divorce by her choice, but why the deuce would she? If it takes pimping Deborah to his randy retired Marine father Jack, and if ghostly mum Daphne's on board with it, who is Chesterfield to question why? Also impending is a tenure showdown involving Chesterfield's love Carrie, their gormless colleague Larry, and their wildly libidinous principal/boss Fay Muck, who holds Larry's fate, amongst more tangible parts, in her hot little hands.
