From There to Here: A Journey of Hopes and Dreams is a personal American story about how individuals born in other lands have found a place in the United States of America. Many years ago, the author, like other immigrants, embarked on a journey of hopes and dreams. The stops along this journey were made possible by the kindness and generosity of persons who are acknowledged in this book. The transcontinental origins of so many Americans give a global flavor to the story of America, especially in this 21st century. America’s story is a tapestry of the individual stories of families that set out for this New World, whether on the Mayflower or on Pan American Airlines. The story of America has included those who made it through Ellis Island or John F. Kennedy Airport. As a first-generation immigrant, the author shares the familiar story of struggles and sacrifices upon which succeeding generations will continue to extend America’s frontiers and potential. The election and presidency of Barack Obama were unforeseen consequences of an international educational exchange which brought his Kenyan-born father to America. In this same tradition, the author, who originally set out from Nigeria, is sharing the story of his dreams, with the hopes that his daughters, Amarachi and Adaora, might draw from them as they grow into second-generation Americans. He extends the same hopes and dreams to other American families and generations to come.
