The Clamor Of The Mountains 5: The End Of Forever

The feeling of remorse that Aganas felt because of his separation from Angaway was short-lived when he saw her happy and contented being one of the dedicated single girls. At least she chose not to wallow in the “failure” of their marriage, according to village customs. She has chosen not to become a pariah.
In the village, there were no longer suitable girls for Aganas for they were all now betrothed to someone. Aganas’ parents did not have any option but to search for a suitable partner for him outside of their village.
Aganas was encouraged to attend barrio fiestas (celebrations) in neighboring villages with which they had a peace pact with. He, however, had no interest in other women. He thought of Lucy more frequently. How was she? Did she marry? They have had no communication whatsoever since the night they had made wanton love more than a year ago.
Aganas had the burning desire to know how she was doing. Angaway was not able to rekindle the same passion that he had only felt for Lucy.
It was a weekend when Aganas and a few of the men were tasked to buy some basic commodities for an incoming fiesta. Aganas knew he had to see Lucy and know how she was doing.
They hiked for two hours in the mountainous terrain and arrived before lunch at the town proper.
“I’ll look for some supplies at the town center,” he excused himself from the group.
When he was away from their sight, he ran all the way to Lucy’s house and hid in one of the nearby bushes. There were no people outside, and the neighboring houses seemed to be empty as well. Perhaps because it was lunch time. Lucy’s scooter was there in front of the house. It seemed like it was just yesterday that he had rode that scooter. The memories of that ride and the event that followed brought a familiar, aching sensation in Aganas’ crotch.
