There are as many unique coming-of-age tales as there are individuals who have made the often perilous journey to adulthood. We naturally expect that the person embarking on this voyage is young, but what about when she is not? WAITING FOR PERMISSION is the account of one such older traveler, who admits that she is "way too old for this to be happening" to her.

Returning home from a short trip, Carol Ann Bowers senses danger about to come in to her peaceful, if rather unexciting, life. She feels like a crouched, big-eyed rabbit desperately searching for a predator. Sure enough, she spots a couple of circling coyotes on the horizon, preparing to spring. At the edge of her vision, she sees a lone hunter, who will chase the others away and capture their prey for himself.

Will the rabbit be brave and clever enough to get away?
Will Carol Ann be able to save a portion of her life?

Set in an imaginary corner of Colorado, WAITING FOR PERMISSION describes, as do many rite-of-passage stories, the last days of a child/parent relationship.

Though the main character is a woman, WAITING FOR PERMISSION is neither chic-lit nor feminist. The story will appeal to readers who prefer reality-based fiction that takes a strange bounce, and to the growing number of middle-aged adults who are caring for difficult parents. It will also strike a chord in anyone who has ever been on the losing side in a battle with a con artist.

For further reading on the life-long process of growing up, see the 'stand-alone' sequel to WAITING FOR PERMISSION, NEST OF THE WALKING WOUNDED. And for a lighter take on the subject, be sure to read THE CERTIFICATE OF ADULTHOOD.
