The Cock and the Hen is a story about the infamous Irish Princess Pirate Grace O'Malley. Grace was raised along the East Coast of Ireland, and her father was the Chieftain of the O'Malley Clan. Grace tricked her father into allowing her to learn the life and abilities of a sailor, fisherman, merchant. However, when the British continued to invade the East Coast of Ireland, Grace rallied her clan, and that of her husbands named the O'Flaherty Clan. By the age of 21 Grace was well known as a skilled sailor and warrior who had more than 100 ships, several hundred men, and castles and islands under her control. Grace was given the nickname the "Hen" for her fighting skills, and her Husband Donal O'Flaherty was given the nickname the "Cock" for his aggressive, no quit fighting style. Grace's impact on the area was so great that Queen Elizabeth I requested a personal parlay with the Irish Princess.
