The Most Famous Sherlock Holmes Story of All Time

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote four Sherlock Holmes novels and 56 short stories, but one stands above them all. The Hound of the Baskervilles has been known for over 100 years as the Greatest Sherlock Holmes Story Ever Told.
The Ancient Legend

In the mid-1600s, Sir Hugo Baskerville, a man of noble blood and brutish soul, kidnapped a peasant girl, brought her back to his estate, and locked her in an upper room of the house. While he and his friends got drunk below, the girl snuck out the window, climbed down the ivy, and ran back toward home across the moor. When her absence was discovered, Sir Hugo went into a rage and sent his dogs out after her while he pursued on horseback. His drunken friends followed and when they finally caught up found a sobering sight: the girl was dead from exhaustion and Sir Hugo lay dead at her side, with a giant, black hound from hell eating at his throat.
But the Hound was not appeased with reaping revenge upon Sir Hugo alone. Over and over again it was said to reappear to reap its revenge upon all the male Baskervilles, many of whom died early and mysterious deaths.

Sherlock Holmes Takes The Case

250 years after the death of Sir Hugo, Sir Charles Baskerville, who had recently returned to the abandoned Baskerville Estate dies a sudden and mysterious death. His heir, Sir Henry Baskerville, has been called back to England to take over the Estate. Sherlock Holmes is called in to protect Sir Henry from the demonic hound. But Holmes does not believe in fairytales, he sees the ancient legend as nothing more than a cover up for something far more sinister: a plot to murder the Baskerville men. To solve the case, Sherlock Holmes will require every bit of his cunning and bravery, making The Hound Of The Baskervilles stand out above and beyond all the rest of the original Sherlock Holmes stories.
