What Would YOU Do If You Had the Power to Change the World? When Dr. Jerrod Jacobs meets Renee Shelton in an operating recovery room, he convinces her to participate in his research program. During brain wave frequency experiments, she dreams of flying through space and time. Renee visits Hawaii, New York, France and England, where she observes and sometimes interferes in historical events. Small changes to the past have an unpredictable effect on the future. This is the story of how one unimportant nobody realizes everything she does matters, affecting the lives of everyone she meets.
Themes/Symbolism
Schrödinger's cat: Schrödinger's cat is an imaginary cat that participates in a hypothetical experiment devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. He thought up the experiment to illustrate quantum entanglement, where the combination of two systems that once interacted but then separated, remain entangled in an indefinite state until measured. A cat is placed in a sealed box with poison that has a fifty-fifty chance of being activated inside the box. Until the box is unsealed, the cat could be either alive or dead and remains in an unknown state of limbo. Once the box is opened, the cat's existence is determined. Quantum 7 presents a similar scenario in which the protagonist travels back in time to save a life, and realizes for the first time the ripple effect of our actions on the world around us. The lives of loved ones hang in the balance of her choices.
Characters/People
Renee Shelton: A female protagonist who doesn't think she was born under a lucky star. Even without the benefit of a good home, wealth or a good education, Renee maintains a positive outlook. The hardships of life bring out the best in this young woman; courage, loyalty and a happy disposition make her many friends.
Jerrod Jacobs: Like Renee, Jerrod is neglected as a small child. At the age of five he is sent to live with his Warren Buffet type grandfather. Under the guidance of Dr. Alan Young, Jerrod receives the best education and care that money can buy. Unfortunately grandfather is obsessed with unlocking the secrets of time travel after the death of his beloved wife, Rose. Social skills are overlooked and sadly forgotten as Dr. Young presses his young charge to follow in his footsteps. Jerrod grows up to become a brilliant research scientist, sharing Dr. Young's passion for quantum mechanics. When he meets Renee, Jerrod discovers the catalyst he needs to unlock the door to time travel.
Chaoxiang "Kozzie" Hu: The son of Chinese immigrants who flee China with a gang like company of workers known as the Nujingo group. Chaoxiang's family has every hour of his life scheduled with tutoring in every subject and social skill needed to be a successful man of business and society. In elementary school he doesn't fit in and is bullied by students and one mean teacher, until Renee champions him. The two friends take very different paths, but their lives seem destined to intertwine together with Jerrod Jacobs.
Quantum 7 is a YA, contemporary, fictional tale of time travel inspired by recent scientific discoveries and quantum theory. It does not contain sexual situations or profanity. Available formats: eBook and trade paperbacks in standard and larger sized text for a total of 87,145 words. This book has been proofed and edited by the author and two consulting editors. T.R.
