Port Tobacco, MD prior to 1895

Port Tobacco, Maryland was one of the earliest towns established in the United States, dating back to the early 1600's. This work describes the history of Port Tobacco and its people, buildings and layout for those history buffs interested in such information. The author, James L. Barbour (the son of Robert Guy Barbour who created the sketches included herein), provides a good summary of the early history of Port Tobacco, his father's sketches of the town and a description of the people and buildings of the town. He also discusses the conspiracy involved with helping John Wilkes Booth, President Abraham Lincoln's assassin, to escape from Maryland into Virginia.
