“My Life with Raymond” is an entertaining yet unusual memoir. It begins with treasured memories of growing up during the Great Depression of the 1930s in Alabama, with my mother, grandmother and three older sisters. It continues through my 49 out-of-the-ordinary years of marriage to a man who was a serious weekend alcoholic. I knew early on that I couldn’t dwell on the unreal, bizarre and crazy weekends Raymond created. The children and I were very resilient, and no matter what we experienced on the weekends, we could always bounce back to some normalcy on Monday mornings and make it through the week. He was drunk every Friday night, all day and all night Saturday and never sobered up before Sunday. This was his pattern for years. You won’t believe many of the weekend escapades we endured. Some of the crazy things he would do were downright funny, yet some were so surreal and were hard to believe unless you witnessed it as we did. I think you will find the book will hold your attention because it is an unbelievable, yet true, factual story of my life as I lived it. The story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming.
