Topaz and the Plum-Gista Stone

Anxious to find out what evil sickness has befallen his old friend, Otis, the great owl, Topaz, Daisy and Dooley take Otis to the Gnomes at North Fortress. Topaz is certain the Healing Gnomes will know what has caused his friends blindness. He also believes the Gnomes possess the power to spare his friend from a lifetime of hardship and dark despair. Nevertheless, the journey for Topaz and his raccoon friend, Dooley, doesn't end here. Grim and unexpected events compel them to travel to mysterious forbidden land. A warning from the Spirit of Amber Tiger gives Topaz reason to doubt his own judgment when sudden life-threatening dangers and dark magical forces begin to close in close in.

Excerpt from Chapter Two:

"My friend, believe me, it is far too dangerous
for even a Yellow Conjure Cat to go into the Land of
Strang," Lome said. "Not many beings have been known
to return from such a place. Do you really think it wise?"
Topaz had begun to pace. "That I can't know for
sure, Lome, but it's the only way I know of to get the
Plum-Gista Stone back. I will have to risk it." The end
of his long tail flicked. "Without the stone, Otis will be
condemned to a life of darkness. He will never fly again."
Lome nodded. "What you say is true; I have no
doubt of it." Lome tapped his fingers against his stick.
He seemed to want to say something more to discourage
Topaz from going but changed his mind. Instead he said,
"Good fortune go with you, then."
"Thank you, Lome, for I know I shall need it."
Having made this decision, Topaz felt his spirits
brighten. Some of his old self-determination had
returned, and his sense of purpose had been renewed.
