Welcome to my Mage DPS guide for World of Warcraft MoP 5.2. Here, you will learn everything you need to know about playing an Arcane, Fire, and Frost Mage in a raid environment, though most of the content also applies to normal and heroic dungeons.
The Arcane specialisation provides excellent single target damage in very stationary fights.
Playing an Arcane Mage relatively well is much easier than doing so with a Frost or a Fire Mage. This specialisation only requires that you watch out for a few cooldowns and a great majority of your damage will come from only one spell, Arcane Blast. However, mastering this specialisation is just as difficult as with the other Mage specialisations.
The Fire specialisation delivers good and sustained single target damage as well as incredible AoE capabilities. Also, Fire Mages have little to no mana issues.
As a Fire Mage, you will use a broad range of spells. Some can be used for both single and multiple target situations while others are exclusive to one of these two situations. Sometimes, a single target fight can have additional secondary targets from which you can benefit to increase your damage on your main target. In multiple target situations, the strategy you will use will depend on several parameters, such as the number of adds and their health points.
the Frost specialisation is performing slightly better than the Arcane and Fire specialisations in single-target fights. In addition to this, it has several incentives. The rotation is pleasant and easy to learn, and the specialisation is usually very useful in a raid due to its unparalleled kiting and crowd control abilities (owing to the former PvP-only nature of the specialisation)......
