BISAC: Family & Relationships / Parenting / General
A memoir of two pregnancies 2 years apart. Genevieve was born in 1998 and due to medical circumstances and the way the labor progressed it ended up being a heavily mediated and medicated delivery and birth. Two years later, with the benefit of a different kind of labor training, a new viewpoint on the whole process of pregnancy and child development, and hindsight and realistic expectations, we gave birth to Rachel in a very different set of circumstances, as close to natural as any birth could be could be expected in a hospital setting.
Not an anti-medicine or anti-doctor tract by any means, this simply describes how different two pregnancies can develop and unfold, even with the same parents following the same vision, holding the same values, and sharing the responsibilities equally. A remembrance as well as a kind of cautionary tale and a celebration of life's miracles and mysteries.
