The Second Annual Journal of the Creative Writers Notebook is a collection of 38 short stories by writers across America. The first section of the book consists of the stories by winners of the short story contest conducted by the Journal; the second set are stories written by members of a Creative Writing Group in Central Florida; the final section contains a poem. "Words" by Don Lubov and stories submitted to the contest. This last set of stories were not among the top prize winners, but were deemed too good not to be included in the collection.
The stories range from humorous ("I Ain't Eatin'" by Howard Giordano - first prize winner) to surprise ending ("Reaper's Option" by Allen Watkins - second prize winner) to poignant ("He wasn't My Real Grandpa" by Cathleen C. Robinson - third prize winner).
Two powerful stories were the Editor's Choice: "The Day the Giants Came" by Ray andrews and "The Warehouse" by Mark Newhouse.
Honorable Mention went to: "final Intrusion" by Nancy Bell, "Princess of Ismus" by Marilyn Hinman, "The Mural" by Rosemary Fielding, "In Her Eyes" by Lovadell French, "Mother Vivian and Mr. W" by Susan Jaillet, and "Bishop's Secret" by Cynthia Ruff.
