Cleil's Trilogy was published after the author's death in 1999 by permission of her chlidren. This mother of four, who received her BA degree and taught at age 50, missed out on neither life nor family. She shares her spiritual and humorous view of her ancestors, pregnancies, each of her children. and her widowhood spent communing with Mother Nature with her English Bulldog, "Yo." Many of the verses were inspired by Cleil's more serene time in Chester, in Northern California. Compiled as a trilogy- "Book One: Creation"; "Book Two: Chester Diary"; "Book Three: Chester Vespers." Sample poem:
SHARE BABY
by Cleil Turkington
Joanie and Cleil were Ladies in waiting,
A well-rounded duo, I'm sure you'll agree.
Then fair Katalinda was born to the family
Just one lady waiting, and that one was ME!
Palm Sunday Eve and expectancy ended.
Our Susie arrived but wasn't to stay.
The spirit of Easter prevailed and she left us-
We plan on a family reunion some day.
Two Mothers, One baby.
No doubt that could end as a sad situation,
with deepest despair.
But Fair Katalinda was tucked in her bunting,
Joan brought her to me and said,
THIS ONE WE SHARE!
So fair Katalinda became my share-baby
You-think she's been spoiled a little? COULD BE!
A share child blessed with a duo of mothers
Ask who loves her most? and the answer would be ME!
