Benjamin and Daisy: A Story about Two Rescue Dogs and the Psychiatrist They Trained is a memoir about a young psychiatrist who adopts a neglected dog. As he completes his psychiatric training, he and the dog become best friends and take care of each other as the psychiatrist begins his career. The first job for the psychiatrist quickly becomes a disaster, and he soon seeks an exit to protect himself and his canine companion. They are finally able to settle into a comfortable life on a Florida beach. The ultimate death of the dog sends the psychiatrist on a journey of self discovery as he seeks to bury his loyal companion and move on with his life. His devotion to his deceased pet allows him to assist another dog in dire straits and ultimately puts him in the position to help many of his patients in the process. This book is an ode to life enrichment through pets, the heartache of their loss, and the strategies that can be used to move on and have a fulfilling life after their passing.
