The Serving Girl

Claire Devonshire wasn't born to a life of service, but after her mother dies and her father drinks away their fortune she finds herself sold into servitude as partial repayment for the family debt. It is difficult to find herself serving at Hillingswood Manor, especially since her family socialized there as a child. It is even more difficult when her forthright manner draws the ire of head of household staff, Rupert Stiles.

Stiles does not spare the rod with servants, and soon Claire realizes that his strictness is mandated by the enigmatic Lord Grayson Hillingswood, who keeps himself reclusively tucked away on the third floor of the grand house. Only when Claire is given a special assignment does she realize why Lord Hillingswood hides away, and she begins to learn more about the history of her employers than she ever realized - a history filled with love, loyalty and domestic discipline.
