Many people are aware of her delightful stories, "A Cathedral Courtship,"* and "Penelope's English Experiences," but to anyone still unacquainted with them, or desirous of possessing them in convenient form, we commend this neat little volume containing both.
To those familiar with England and "English Experiences" the stories will recall many a lovely bit of English country or town, and many a reminiscence of trials such as Penelope encountered with landladies and itemized bills—perhaps the haughty butler and the funereal footmen have been seen by other American travelers as well as by those with whom we take the journeys pictured by Kate Douglas Wiggin.
To those whose English journeys have been made through the medium of books, the author offers no less pleasure. The delicate and ready wit, and her graceful language must charm all. Neither stories aim to instruct their readers. If you do not know now what a "lemon squash " is, do not hope to learn from them. The first of the two. "A Cathedral Courtship," is the more finished in workmanship and gains by its brevity.
