In a parallel layer to ours, lies the Commonwealth of Whitby. A layer colonized hundreds of years ago by the great Merriweather Whitby, the Founding Father of the luminescent arts. It is an energetic place of purity lacking the interference of electricity; a sheltered existence where magic is a normal way of life, and Founders are the ruling class.
The day that fourteen-year old Gracie Frost sends a lacrosse ball straight out of her home layer, she becomes relevant to them--a problem. She is on their radar, and once on their radar, there is no escape.
She is immediately taken to the Commonwealth for training at the Academy of Luminescent Arts where she befriends others from home also cursed with unwanted “special talents”.
As Gracie dives deeper into the world of luminescent magic, she is forced to explore her own purpose, wondering if what they say is true: could she truly be the only person to share a dark special talent with the late Merriweather Whitby? More importantly, is there a hidden Whitby family secret that only she can unlock?
