A Tear for Sarah

This is the story of a young Kentucky mother whose husband is involved in Civil War battles at Cumberland Gap, Tn, in 1862. She has tried to maintain the family farm alone but is fighting a losing battle. In desperation, she sets out to try to find her husband and get him back home somehow. Her parents warn her against taking her young daughter on a dangerous trek through uncharted mountains and forging flooded rivers as she grittily continues her quest.
