The Prairie is the last novel (chronologically) in the Leatherstocking Tales. Set on the Great Plains just after the Louisiana Purchase, this frontier adventure tells the story of the aged Natty Bumppo known only as “The Trapper”. The novel involves a series of conflicts between white settlers and rivaling Native American tribes. The story touches on the destruction of the native Indians due to expansion of the white man.
