A fire destroys the Chicago apartment of Jenna Hansbrough, but the beautiful, well-liked, graduate student is nowhere to be found. A fire captain, the brother-in-law of the mayor, is killed in the fire, and the mayor wants answers. Fast! Detective Felicity Daniels and her partner Thomas immediately suspect Joe Cutler, Jenna's mentor and graduate advisor, the last person seen with her. After all, they know he has her cell phone. Joe is caught between cooperating with the cops and fear--because he has no clue how he came by it. He made the fatal mistake of drinking too much when he was with his charming protoge and her fellow grad students the night before, even though Joe knew from past experience, that he can't handle alcohol...and can't remember what happens afterwards.
