Meet Cap, the last waterman on the bay. The past couple of years have been hard for Cap to make a living on the water, but now it’s impossible. Pollution has condemned parts of the bay and tourists and vacationers have depleted its waters of crabs and shellfish. Beaten down by forces he can’t control, Cap has a last-ditch effort to sell his beloved boat to make some money to try to get ahead for once.

"Cap" introduces the reader to a colorful cast of characters, from Bradshaw Shankland, whose name and influence seemed to be everywhere in the state (and who is after Cap’s boat and his daughter), to a salty barmaid who might be Cap’s only friend.

Can Cap make it in this brand new world and retain his last bit of dignity? Or will this changing landscape swallow up the last waterman on the bay.
