A Teacher's Dispatch from Japan

The year is 1933. American school teacher Clara Miller has accepted an offer to teach in faraway Japan at an exclusive boarding school for young ladies, in part because the recruiting materials included a discipline manual with vivid pictures of students receiving bare-bottom punishment. Miss Miller welcomes a change from the unruly pupils at her current school in Boston and anticipates that the students in Japan will be far better behaved.

But it is not until she actually arrives at the Yukizakura School for Girls that she fully appreciates just how very different things will be.All students at the Yukizakura School for Girls are subject to the strictest of physical punishment, including bare-bottom spankings and slipperings in the classroom as well as humiliating public punishments and canings. And, as Miss Miller discovers, to her full approval, the girls are kept under a careful health regime that includes regular enemas administered by most unsympathetic nurses.
