Sam is stuck in a dead end job as an IT manager. He is still reeling from his breakup with Ryan, his young Robert Redford lookalike ex-boyfriend whom he dated for five years before finding him in bed with a waiter from the pretentious club down the street. The only thing Sam doesn't regret is that he never told Ryan about the erotic dreams he had about another man while they were still together, after which sticky pools of honey would mysteriously appear on the sheets or smeared on Sam's body.

Down-on-his luck Sam grabs a vegan bite at a cafe just before a massive blizzard hits Chicago. Upon seeing a homeless man dancing in the snowy street, Sam hurls himself into the guy just in time to save him from becoming a pancake on the grill of a speeding CTA bus. Daniel is supermodel-gorgeous, homeless, and believes firmly that he is Hadraniel, the angelic guardian of the Second Gate of Heaven. Against his own better judgement, Sam feels instant compassion for the homeless man and allows Daniel to stay in his ramshackle studio apartment until he gets on his feet again.

Lovable, strange, childlike Daniel enchants everyone in his path and is soon scouted as a model. Sam resists Daniel's passes as he navigates the failure of his subsequent company and the loss of his job and the odd discovery of a gold coin. Is Daniel an angel or not? Is he truly crazy?
