This e-book is much more than a rudimentary outline of the principles of the calculus. It affords a sound, yet brief, exposition of all that need be contained in an introductory course.
The author's method is essentially Newton's method of fluxions. The point of view adopted is that differentiation is an arithmetical process; and that the resulting differentials are numbers like other numbers, and are to be classified as independent or dependent variables according to the like character of the variables from which they are derived.
The treatment is, accordingly, thoroughly modern; and it is presented with great clearness and vigor.
Curve tracing, partial differentiation, and successive integration are among the topics taken up.
