Lo Debar is a physical place that existed in ancient times. It is a place where retired priests went to live. It was a place where ex-cons released from prison went to live. It was a place of hiding, a place of solitude, and a place of secrets. People who lived in Lo Debar lived there because they wanted to be forgotten.

This book was written after much thought and meditation on what it means to live in the place where the forgotten live. One day, I read the story of a young prince, who was dropped, became lame in both feet, and then went to live in that place called Lo Debar. When I read the story, I thought how sad it was to live as a prince, broken, suddenly in abstract poverty, and alone. I imagined what it was to be in a place where you feel you do not belong but cannot speak of those thoughts to anyone. And although Lo Debar was a physical place for him, it was an emotional place for me.

Lo debar is a state of mind, not a state of being. Each of us has control over our own destiny and state of mind. When I was younger, I did as my parents did. Now that I have become a woman, I understand that I am no longer tied to the words that once defined my world. Now, I have complete control over my being, and writing this has been the unveiling of the person I know I was intended to be from the foundations of creation. I am no longer held hostage by my own emotional disabilities and abnormalities. I discovered life outside of Lo debar, and I knew I could never return to the place where the broken live.

This text is suggestive rather than explanatory in nature. It does not answer the questions of why physical, emotional, or physiological abuse happens, but rather it gives a stimulating adventure of survival and determination for one woman. Join me as we venture from the place where the broken people live.
