Civil War Memorial Quilts and the Words that Inspired Them

Fifteen of the author’s Civil War commemorative quilts are paired with quotes from the era to provide a fascinating glimpse into this pivotal time in our nation’s history. The words are those of Lincoln, Grant and Lee as well as a young man named John W. Houston who helped raise a regiment and fought for the Union. His memories of the war, recorded later in life, give us a feel for the life of a soldier at that time. A poignant letter from his mother reveals the worries and concerns of those on the home front. The quilts were made over a period of years using reproduction fabrics and traditional blocks.
