The name of David appears in the Bible more than the name of Jesus. In fact, Jesus used the name of David as a means of identification while He was on the earth. He claimed He was a part of his genealogy as proof that He was the foretold Messiah.
In the sixth-to-last verse of the Bible Jesus again identifies himself as, “the root and offspring of David.” When we consider how one man of all men ever born on earth could command such recognition, it demands an answer to why?
This book explores the life and times of David in the quest to answer this question. As we consider certain possibilities we can gain insight into what God is expecting from us. The book takes events as told in the Bible and adds some interpretive thoughts that might have been experienced by the historical figures. It starts out with David as a little shepherd boy who even before puberty displayed unusual courage in the face of danger.
The book takes the reader through David’s life as the warrior of warriors, to the fugitive running from the king, to the victorious general, to king of Judah and then king of Israel, to worshipper, to husband and perhaps failed father that finally succeeds. In his last years he architecturally designed the most expensive building ever built on earth. We find David a renaissance man before the Renaissance.
