Every Tub Has To Stand On Its Own Bottom
Ryland Holmes was born in the Roaring Twenties and grew up in a time when the Jim Crow segregation laws were still in place. As a child he was told he was not good enough and made to feel “less than,” until finally he was abandoned by the woman he thought was his mother. Ryland found himself on his own at age 13, homeless and hungry, and had to become a man very quickly. Yearning for a real home, Ryland joined the Navy at age 16 and entered World War II in search of one. You Be The Judge is the story of a child who was forced to give up his childhood. It’s the autobiography of a man who overcame an unusual number of obstacles in his life—a self-made man who simply wanted someplace to call home—and how he finally found a place in the world, complete with a loving family. His story is one of determination, faith, and perseverance. Where there is hope there is light.
