Kay is thirteen years old when her beloved father is murdered. Two weeks before his death, he had taken her to a special dinner where he gave her a ring and spoke to her about her precious value and the advantages of saving herself until she is married. She promised him that she would. She grows up and goes to college where she discovers she has a talent for writing. An English professor mentors her and helps her to write a romance novel. He then helps her to get it published. She goes on to write several more and becomes a best selling author. During this time, Kay has not forgotten her promise to her late father and has followed a list of standards to maintain that promise.
When she is nearly thirty, she flies from her home in California to the publishing house in New York for a conference. Afterwards, she goes to the airport to fly home and her life is about to change.
William is twenty-seven years old, when his beloved mother dies from cancer. He has been desperately searching for a true love just like the one his parents have shared. His father advises him that he has been looking in the wrong places and dating the wrong girls. He recommends that William stop dating the wrong girls and wait patiently until the right girl comes along.
William has become a famous star in a highly rated TV series. He decides to take his father’s advice and finds it very difficult to patiently await the coming of his true love. He is not only fighting his own desires, but the continuous seductions from the women around him.
When he is thirty, he leaves California to fly to New York for a photo shoot for which he has been hired to represent of a famous brand of beer. He returns home on the same flight as Kay.
They meet in the airport and spend time in extended conversation while their plane is repeatedly delayed from taking off. As William gets to know Kay, he discovers she is not like any girl he has ever known. Before they land in Los Angeles he has all ready decided that she might very well be the girl he’s been waiting for. Kay is more cautious.
William has to earn Kay’s trust, working through her standards in order to earn her love. Neither of them recognizes the celebrity status of the other at first. They just enjoy each other’s company. As they grow closer ,they discover each other’s fame in a suprising fashion and then have to work through the ramifications that come with the recognition.

This story is simply a slice of life about two sensible people who fall in love. There are no ridiculous misunderstandings that could easily be solved with a little communication.
