The story “Istaqa, Legend Of The Coyote Man” was conceived by its writers through the viewing of actual accounts, and is based partially on individual reported events occurring in the Midwest and Southern portions of the states, from the 1990’s to the present day. Through eyewitness testimonies that have been documented by numerous witnesses that have in fact reported to authorities that they had observed a large eight foot beast like man, covered in hair that stood on two legs and had the face of a dog or wolf.
The writers of “Istaqa, Legend Of The Coyote Man” incorporated factual and documented eyewitness accounts and integrated them with a fictional story that takes place on a fictional farm in rural West Virginia in the present day. The main character, Cecil Cooper notices that his livestock and pets are falling victim to an unknown animal attack during the night. After finding eighteen inch clawed footprints in his cattle field near a mutilated cow, he convinces the indifferent local authorities through blackmail to investigate further into his losses.
After the Mayor and his Sheriff of the nearby town complete their initial investigation, the Mayor is clearly disturbed by the evidence that he gathers. However, due to the county’s economic difficulties accompanied with the mass exodus of the local population over the declining job market in the area, the Mayor has no desire to make things worse by sounding the “fear” alarm. The Mayor is more concerned right now with the Festival coming up on the 31st of October that brings in revenue from all over the state. It isn’t until forty four of the Cecil Cooper’s goats are mutilated in front of him and the body of an old hermit who’s found torn to pieces in his back yard, does the Mayor and his Sheriff stand up and take notice. Afraid for his family and burning with desire to eliminate his fears, the main character contacts as many specialists, scientists and hunters as he can find to put an end to the wrath of this unknown creature who has now begun to attack humans. The story primarily unfolds on a three mile stretch of property that ends at the banks of the Kanawha River in West Virginia. After multiple attacks on civilians, scientist, hunters and even law enforcement, the Governor of West Virginia is forced to step in. The overall story is encompassed by a spiritual belief by an old Indian that the reason behind the unknown beast is due solely to the disturbance of his personal ancestral burial ground.
