Belle believes it is all her father’s fault that her mother drove off into a blizzard one night, killing herself. His best friend Jerry had been killed in the arena, and her mother had begged him to quit his dangerous job as a rodeo rider, but he had flat out refused to even consider it.
When her dad took Jerry’s son: Belle’s one time best friend, Roy, under his wing and began to treat him for like his child, while he all but ignored her, she became even angrier. So, as soon as she graduated from High School, she got out of town as fast as possible, swearing that she would never be able to forgive either one of them.
After her father dies from cancer, Belle is forced to return to the ranch and run it side by side with the very man that she still holds a grudge against to this day, or risk having to hand it over to him, lock, stock and barrel.
Belle struggles with learning to accept having this rough, tough, impossibly stubborn, sexy as hell cowboy stirring up all kinds of trouble for her. But keeping her mind, heart and hormones in check around him is all but impossible. After she finally admits to herself that she has fallen in love with him, she must face trial after tribulation that threatens to get in the way of her happiness and forces her to make some tough decisions.
Just when she believes she has conquered the last of her fears, it seems like there is always something else standing in her way. Will she ever learn to stop running away from things that frighten her, and finally face them head on, or will she simply continue to repeat her mother’s mistakes for the rest of her life?
Will she ever learn that just because things went a certain way for her parents; that doesn’t mean that it has to go that way for her as well? To do this, she must come to terms with what REALLY happened to her mother all those years ago, so that she can finally learn to let go.
Will Belle ever TRULY be able to say she has finally found her way back home?
