In the Autumn of My Years

I have never sat down intentionally to write a poem. They have come about because of something that has moved me; something I've seen, something that I was thinking seriously about, or thoughts of life and my place in it, that I had no other way of expressing in a normal fashion. These thoughts would smolder within until like a volcano they surfaced, erupted, and the poem began moving to the natural conclusion for the idea that caused its eruption. Some are serious some are light.

These poems were written for no other purpose but to express the inner inexplicable emotions occurring at a given time.

Writing a poem to me is much like praying. Your heart speaks faster than the tongue can speak or the hand can write, and it is cohesive and to the point where there is no mendacity-only truth.

I share these now because they have served a purpose for me when I created them and I thought perhaps as you read them they may
touch some of you and help you speak to similar emotions that we all share…and the timing may be appropriate.
