Atlantida by Pierre Benoit

This Halcyon Classics ebook is ATLANTIDA (L'Atlantide) by French novelist Pierre Benoît. Benoit spent his early years and military service in Northern Africa, before becoming a civil servant. His first novel, Koenigsmark, was published during 1918; ATLANTIDA was published the next year and was awarded the Grand Prize of the French Academy.

Set In 1911, two French officers, Capitaine Morhange and Lieutenant Saint-Avit, become lost in the Sahara desert and discover the legendary kingdom of Atlantis, ruled by its ageless queen Antinéa. They become the latest in a line of captives whom she has taken as lovers, and who are killed and embalmed in gold after she has tired of them.
