There is a "new breed" of female caregivers emerging in today's world. They are the grandmothers who are serving as a mom to a grandchild because of the loss of that child's birth mother in everyday life. The loss may be due to incarceration, illness, or death. Whatever the cause, the result is the same; a grandmother is once again a mother. Today's term for this grandma/mom is "grom".
Second chances don't often occur in life, but they do in the life of a grom. She has the chance to actively participate in 21st century child rearing with the benefit of knowing what didn't work out the first time around.
Most groms are older women, typically 50 years and older. They are in a unique situation of having to adapt to today's social guidelines while maintaining their beliefs. They also have to redefine how other younger parents view them in parenting situations. Being a grom is a gift, not a burden. This book helps women see how wonderful second chances can be in life.
"My Life As A Grom" is a true story with guidelines for other women who are looking for support and encouragement as they enter the new world of gromhood. Eleven years of "field research" went into this book. Now it's time to share this message with others and encourage other groms to come forward. You are not alone.
This revised edition expands the area of gromdom through the teenage years. Walking the walk , not just talking the talk, takes on a new meaning for grandparent caregivers.
